Three young Suffolk athletes were today presented with SportsAid grants by Lord Holmes of Richmond, MBE, at the latest Ipswich Sporting Lunch Club, of which we are a long-time supporter and co-sponsor.
The athletes included:
🏓 Joe Fortnum-Adams, from Ipswich, who is the reigning British Para Under 19 table tennis champion
🏃♂️ Stan Chevous, also from Ipswich, who represented England at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad last year in the 400m and 4 x 400m mixed relay, where he won a silver medal
🏊♂️ Jude Gunner, from Middleton, who won gold at last month’s British Para Swimming Winter Meet in the 100m butterfly and has qualified, in six events, for the Paralympic trials and British Championships in April.
The money raised from the Ipswich Sporting Lunch Club has directly enabled SportsAid to make 84 grants to young sportsmen and women from Suffolk, supporting them with the cost of training and competing at national and international level.
Lord Holmes, who was guest speaker at the event, is Britain’s most successful Paralympic swimmer of all time with nine gold medals, and became the Director of Paralympic Integration for London 2012.
Pound Gates co-sponsors Ipswich Sporting Lunch Club alongside: Ensors, Ellisons, StrategiQ, Becketts, Handelsbanken, Waller Transport Services and Fenn Wright.
